This documentary hits close to home. As a Public Health Service Officer, and government bioterrorism subject matter expert, I managed the FBI’s national U.S. Postal Service mail delivery bioterrorism safety program during the fatal, Bruce Ivins, Anthrax Attacks throughout the United States, which sadly killed five people.
During this timeframe, I provided bioterrorism protection for over 1000 public and covert federal facilities and buildings.
What I especially regret, is the fact that our nations leaders, from the top down, failed to act swiftly enough to shut down U.S. Postal Service facilities, and protect the U.S. Postal workers from anthrax exposure. Their failure to act unequivocally, unfairly, and not in the interest of national security for all, cost African American U.S. Postal workers their life and for others their health.
The focus of this documentary centers on Bruce Ivins but it also exposes one of America’s most insidious weaknesses, cultural bias, and racism. Let this documentary be another reminder to not let the enemy become ourselves. America has always been the world’s beacon of hope and prosperity.
